Rainbow Harbor

Scott and I always love to discover new things, especially things that aren't too far from home. I haven't really explored that much of Long Beach, so we set off to see what we could find. We managed to stumble upon Shoreline Village at Rainbow Harbor. It is super cute! This floral romper made me feel like I was on vacation (or staycation I should say), so I felt like it was a perfect fit. They have this adorable little carousel, rainbow colored shops, arcade, bike rentals, and more. You can pick up a delicious funnel cake or walk along the harbor. It is amazing how you can be so close to home, and so far at the same time.

The Castle in the Hills

Life has been so chaotic lately. I have so much to do whether it is work, shooting, or preparing for our move. Sometimes, you just need to get away from it all. Luckily, this beautiful park is not far from our house. I wanted to see it once last time before we moved and to capture it since photography really isn't allowed. (even though it is a public park lol) Once a personal mansion, it was donated to the city to become a public park. From the blue cobblestone tiled rocks on the driveway to the chimneys located all around the house, this is for sure my dream home. It is pretty much a mini castle in my eyes. As a little gothic girl, it makes perfect sense I should end up in a castle. Ah to sip tea in the gardens or stroll around the grounds, you can't help but fall in love with its wonder and imagine what it must have been like for the previous owners. It will be one of the things I will certainly miss about LA.

Secret Garden

I have long wanted a kimono. For some reason, I just never got around to it. Once I got this beautiful baby in and saw how amazing it was, I knew I wanted to shoot it in a Japanese garden. The lush greens and tranquility would not only be a great escape for my everyday LA City life, but also a great backdrop. On an added bonus, Scott and I could make a little date day out of it. I had already gone to the Huntington Library, so I did a little Google research and found the Descanso Gardens. Once a family estate, it has now been turned into a botanical garden for all to enjoy. Descanso means "place of rest" in Spanish, and by all accounts it was just that. Due to the atrocious lack of ran LA has been receiving, there are many dry patches and brown seems to have creeped in where it was once a flourishing green.  Despite this, Descanso provides a brief escape from the hustle and bustle from the surrounding metropolis.

Why Blend In When You Can Stand Out

How can you not feel sexy in this little number?? ;) I love edgy clothing, sexy and gothic is my favorite combination. Like I always say, I will stop wearing black when they make a darker color. For so long when I was modeling full time, I had to be the commercial girl next door. It was hard feeling like you can't be true to yourself. Once I officially stopped, I dyed my hair blue and switched out my wardrobe. It has been an incredibly freeing experience. I didn't realize how much of a show I was putting on to blend in for my job. At least now, I get to go through a whole new fun journey of self discovery.

The Ten Commandments of Street Smarts

Ten Commandments of Street Smarts

1. Be nice to people. People generally give back what they receive. Courtesy is very persausive.
2. Stand your ground. Being a push over won't get you ahead in life, but it will allow people to walk all over you.
3. Cash rules everything around me. Make that money, save that money, and work hard for that money.
4. At the end of the day, money is still paper. Find the things that are truly priceless in life like love, family, and friends.
5. Keep your promises. You are only as good as your word. Both the starting point and staying point in relationships or business, is trust.
6. Never forget your roots. They always say, home is where the heart is.
7. Maintain humility. No matter where life takes you or how much success you achieve, keep your head on the ground.
8. Speak less, listen more. You learn more by listening then you ever will by speaking.
9. Give back. You receive more by giving and you help to make the world a better place.
10. Don't give up. Life is never about how often you fall, but that you are willing to get back up every time.

What Once Was Lost Now Is Found

Most of the time, when Scott and I go to shoot we only have a general area on where we are heading. While normally it would make more sense to have an exact spot, we seem to love to excitement of the unknown. Sometimes it is easy to stumble upon something amazing, and other times we spend hours just driving around chasing light. It has lead us to discover things that are magical in their own forsaken way, and maybe trespass a time or two. At the end of the day, I am eternally grateful that I get to discover these places with the love of my life, my business partner. It takes an L and an S to create our little LS Studios.

Q & A: You Ask, I Answer

Originally I was just to pick my favorites, but I think I will go ahead and answer them all!
Here we go:

Q: Besides blue and green tones, what other shades would you color your hair? What color would you never want to use on your hair?
A: I definitely want to try purple at some point. I am not sure whether it will be a violet or a lavender, but I think it could be fun. I also love pink, red, fuchsia, pastel colors, and hell even orange. I honestly want to try almost every color at some point. I would never color my hair yellow or true green tones. I have a strange dislike for the color green and I think yellow would just look horrible.

Q: Do you feel like you take on different characters everyday and throughout your shoots? If yes, what has it taught you about yourself?
A: When it comes to the day to day, I am only me. I definitely take on different characters for my shoots though. It has always been one of my favorite things about modeling. Taking on different characters has taught me to discover different sides of myself and remember the things I love about just being me. I don't take on different characters in order to escape myself, I do it to play a role almost like an actor. Although, my challenge as a model is to tell a story in a single frame.

Q: Minus modeling, what else do you see yourself doing in the future? Travel goals? Bucket list? What's one thing you have to do or one place you have to go one day?
A: I see myself developing my blog and continuing to do photography with Scott. I just want to travel the world and take beautiful photos with him. I have so many travel goals it is almost ridiculous, and many of them are things that most people wouldn't even care about. I want to see every natural wonder of the world and cities that are older than my own country. I don't really have a bucket list as I feel you never know how long you have. I try and do things that excite me and push as if everyday was my last. I have to see so many places. I HAVE to see them. haha In some ways, I could say it is everywhere. I think there is beauty everywhere and not everyone can see it.

Q: When did you start your career in modeling?
A: I started around 17/18.

Q: What inspired you to be a model?
A: It was honestly something I was always drawn to and felt like I was meant to do. It didn't matter how many people told me I was too short, I was going to model. I wanted to wear beautiful clothes and travel to wonderful places.

Q: If you could change one thing about yourself (hair, body, personality) for 24 hours, what would it be?
A: I would not change a thing. I am sure that may not be the answer you are looking for and may sound cliche, but it is the honest truth. It has taken me a long time to be completely and utterly happy with the way I am, even all of my faults and imperfections. I don't believe I am perfect or anyone else for that matter, and that is exactly what makes us perfect.

Q: What is my hair routine?
A: I outline most of what I do for my hair in my post "Tips and Tricks for Candy Colored Hair." (http://www.travelsizesupermodel.com/2014/07/tips-and-tricks-for-candy-colored-hair.html) However, I do also use a one inch wand to achieve my curls and very light hold hairspray so it looks more natural and not stiff. I make sure to make it a priority to keep it healthy by doing hair masks and not over using hot tools.

Q: What do you like most, really, in life?
A: Love. I like love more than anything. That can be the love between my boyfriend and I or between friends or family. Love to me conquers all.

Q: Can you read minds?
A: If only.

Q: How do you maintain your hair color?
A: I provide full details on my blog post "Tips and Tricks for Candy Colored Hair." (http://www.travelsizesupermodel.com/2014/07/tips-and-tricks-for-candy-colored-hair.html)

Q: What places have you traveled in the world?
A: Unfortunately, not that many! Growing up less fortunate, we weren't able to afford extravagant vacations. At this point, I am making it a bigger priority to travel and just recently got my first passport. I will be heading to the Caribbean this summer and will be taking lots of photos.

Q: What is your exercise routine?
A: I normally run a mile to two miles on the treadmill, and then circuit train ab/leg/butt exercises. I try to not let me workouts because routine and mix it up to keep my body guessing. A big part of having a great body is your diet, not only will it make you look better you will also feel better.

Q: Have you watched a movie called "The Door in the Floor?" If so, what do you think of it and it's soundtrack?
A: Unfortunately, I have never seen this movie.

Q: Have you ever gotten free tacos just for being pretty?
A: No, but I would love if this were true as I have a love for tacos.

Q: Do you have weird fetishes you would like to share?
A: No, no weird fetishes.

Q: How tall are you?
A: I am 5'2.

Q: Do people always compliment your hair?
A: Yes, they do. Some people will stop me on the street or run up to me just to tell me how much they love it. It makes me really happy that they love it so much. I catch myself when I see other girls with candy colored hair saying the same thing, " OMG, I LOVE YOUR HAIR!" So, I get it.

Q: Do you have any regrets?
A: Absolutely not. I believe in living life with no regrets. I would never take back any of the bad things that happened to me because they made me who I am today. Without the bad, I could not have become the strong person I am today. Every point has gotten me to this point, and I am perfectly happy with where and who I am.

Q: Favorite movie?
A: I honestly can't say I have one favorite movie. I am a huge movie buff. I have many favorites, but to name a few would be...Shawshank Redemption, Fight Club, What About Bob, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Gone with the Wind, so on and so forth...I like good stuff. haha

Life Is All Rainbows And Unicorns!

In some ways, I have always felt like I didn't fit in. A constant outsider in a society that pushes you to be a social butterfly. It took me time to realize that feeling that way is not a negative thing. "The biggest challenge in life is being yourself...in a world that is trying to make you like everyone else." Now, I believe my strongest asset is that I am different and have not conformed. I love my blue hair and weird clothes and stroll proudly down the street. I want all the other freaks, geeks, and weirdos to find the strength in their differences too. Because at the end of the day, I'm a fucking unicorn. A one of a kind mythical creature that can not be tamed or changed or told what to do. Embrace your individuality and fly that freak flag high!

I Am The Wind

I am the wind.
You cannot see me but you can feel me
breezing gently through your hair
brushing lightly across your cheek
whistling softly 'neath your ear
I am the wind, whirling, howling, roaring
blowing fiercely 'gainst the desert sand
which sifts in the hourglass of your soul
I will not fail you, nor leave your side
till you smell fresh rain again
and soak under cascading waterfalls
I am the wind, extinguishing wild fire
which burns and scars the lifeline of your palm
I am the sweetened fragrance of each meadow
where you lay, beneath a half sun
I am the wind breathing my warmth
where your numb fingertips
gather forget-me-not petals
that fall ever so slow
with every whisper of my flutish tapping sound
I am the wind, I will carry you places, far
I'd tickle your lips with fluttering feathers
of silent doves soaring above your past
I'd strip your thoughts bare till I touch your heart
I am the wind wafting by your pillowcase
I play within your dreams
with each seductive move
Capturing each hour of a star
I linger in the deepest dark
Your night becomes my night
and our moons will never part
I am the wind.

Golden Hour

I had a company write me recently and they called me an "influencer." At first I was like, "Say what?" Then I thought, I hope I do influence you. I hope I influence you to get out into nature and discover all the beauty of this world. I hope I influence you to feel confident in your body and your individuality. I even hope I influence you to wear clothes that make you happy, even if everyone else doesn't get it. Being happy with who you are is the beginning of a life long romance, now get lovin'!

A Day in the Life

Scott and I spent the day roaming through Beverly Hills in my new Alex & Chloe snapback representing the hood. ;) It sure is rough on the streets of B Hills. Sitting on the Clueless steps or walking the streets like Pretty Woman, you feel like you are in another world. We went store to store, pretending to be tourists on Rodeo Drive and imagining we were in scene from our own romantic comedy. We have new appreciation for our neighborhoods since we will be moving soon! Yes, we are leaving Los Angeles. I have spent four years here which have been amazing, but we are ready to be close to family. Scott is originally from Sacramento, so it is time to head north. :)
